Sumiyoshi makie is the motif Sumiyoshi Taisha of Osaka(It is the main shrine of all the Sumiyoshi shrines in Japan). The land scape of Sumiyoshi Taisha such as pine trees, arched bridge, shrine buildings, Sumiyoshi gate are depicted. This is by Kakuo Kouetsu??1974- Awarded the Forestry Agency secretary prize at All Japan Lacquerware Exhibition. 1983- Awarded the director-general of Living Industry Bureau, Ministry of International. 1986- Awarded the director-general of Living Industry Bureau, Ministry of International. 1997- designated as a Japanese Traditional Craftsman master.
He is a Purveying lacquerer to the Eihei-ji Temple (one of the two headquarters of the Soto sect of Zen Buddhism). This is in a Very Good condition with signed Wooden box.
