Beautiful Japanese Antique Old MAKIE Lacquered JUBAKO Gold gilt "Crane/Turtle" design with Wooden Box. Japanese Antique late EDO to early MEIJI period lacquered 4 stacks lunch box "JUBAKO". This portable food container box features a beautiful hand-painted gold gilt landscape "Crane/Turtle" motif.
There are two lids, one for the crane and the other for the turtle. There is a saying in Japan that cranes live 1,000 years and turtles live 10,000 years. When a crane is paired with a turtle, a mating partner for life, they become a symbol of happy marriage. Height 6.3 x Width 17.3 x Depth 17.3 cm.
